The faculty, staff and resources of the Online Education department, in collaboration with the C3 Teaching and Learning Center, Professional Development Program, MiraCosta Instructional Designer Nadia Khan, and Peer Support Online Mentor Faculty, provide MiraCosta College instructors with online instructional technologies, course development assistance, workshops, and customized online education support.

Essential Requirements and Support for Faculty Teaching Online at MiraCosta

All faculty teaching online at MiraCosta should:

Ongoing Support Opportunities for Faculty

  • review the MiraCosta DE Handbook, the MiraCosta Online Class Quality Guidelines, and an ever-growing Canvas course which includes MiraCosta faculty examples of how they have put the online class quality guidelines into practice in Canvas
  • contact the MiraCosta Instructional Designer, Nadia Khan, for more in-depth assistance with course design and teaching (email: nkhan@miracosta.edu or set an appointment on her calendar)
  • attend a Great Ideas for Teaching with Technology session held on alternating Wednesdays, 1-1:30 pm, with Jim Sullivan, Jim Julius, and Nadia Khan in OC T250 or by Zoom. See also the archive of topics and recordings.
  • contact 24×7 Canvas support for faculty (by phone: 1-833-345-2890, or through live chat accessed from the Tech Help button in Canvas)
  • attend a Spring 2024 webinar and/or take a multi-week online teaching course from @ONE (exclusively for California Community College faculty)
  • on this website, check out tips and workshops on the various online instructional technologies available at MiraCosta (under the Media & Technology menu), and also see the Online Ed Workshop archives for access to dozens of recordings of previous Online Education workshops at MiraCosta
  • review the weekly online teaching challenges set up in spring 2022 by MiraCosta peer mentor faculty and our
  • attend a live webinar or review recordings and resources from MiraCosta online technology providers, including:
    • Perusall (social annotation)
    • PlayPosit (tools for activities and assessment embedded within videos)
    • Respondus 4.0 (managing test banks and moving them into/out of Canvas)
  • contact a member of the Online Education team (send them an email)
  • (NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR 2023-24 – waiting on new MOU) connect with a peer online mentor for one-on-one collegial support with any aspect of designing and teaching in the online environment
