The faculty, staff and resources of the Online Education and Instructional Design department, in collaboration with the C3 Teaching and Learning Center and Professional Development Program, provide MiraCosta College instructors with online instructional technologies, course development assistance, workshops, and customized online education support.

Essential Requirements and Support for Faculty Teaching Online at MiraCosta
All faculty teaching online at MiraCosta should:
- Be proficient with Canvas (and, if teaching a scheduled online class, with Zoom).
- New to Canvas? Self-Paced Introduction to Teaching with Canvas course from @ONE
- Complete the required 3-hour Online Compliance course on accessibility, copyright, and FERPA/privacy
- Become familiar with the MiraCosta Online Class Quality Guidelines and complete the self-certification checklist based on the requirements stated in the Guidelines. The following recorded workshops (each one hour) from Jan. 2022 explain the 10 items on the checklist:
- Meeting Basic Requirements of MiraCosta’s Online Class Quality Guidelines and the Self-Certification Checklist (Items 1, 2, 6, 8, 9)
- Ensuring Regular Effective Contact Between Instructor and Students Online (Item 3)
- Ensuring Regular Effective Contact Among Students Online (Item 4)
- Facilitating Equity, Success, and Academic Integrity by Proactively Supporting Students Online (Items 5 & 10)
- Meeting Accessibility Requirements for Online Classes (Item 7)

Ongoing Support Opportunities for Faculty
- review the MiraCosta DE Handbook, the MiraCosta Online Class Quality Guidelines, and an ever-growing Canvas course which includes MiraCosta faculty examples of how they have put the online class quality guidelines into practice in Canvas
